Re: “Durham’s New Parking Meters Are Confusing. We’re Here to Help.

When I hear the echo chamber justification for exchanging free parking for metered spaces, "something virtually every fast-growing city eventually decides to do", I am reminded of the old sayings I heard over and over again as a child. "If someone else jumps off of a cliff are you going to follow them?" "Two wrongs don't make a right." Just to name a couple.

As you might can tell I am adamantly opposed to the metered parking. They say that "the stated goal hasn't been to raise money but rather to increase turnover of in-demand on-street parking spaces downtown." What a bad joke. If that is the objective, put time limits on parking spaces and issue citations. You can use the same personnel that will be used to monitor the metered spots. And you can price the citations to make up for the money you "weren't trying to make." If you want to grub for money, don't lie about it. That makes it even more pathetic and dishonest to boot.

Re: “Donald Trump Promised Big Bucks for Infrastructure. Could That Save Light Rail?

Donald Trump made many grandiose promises. Some, like Mexico paying for the wall, were blatantly hollow from the start. Lying for him is involuntary. It occurs without requiring thought or effort. And sadly he is apparently incapable of keeping up with his own lies as evidenced by his staunch insistence he didn't say something that he has been recorded on tape saying. And he obviously has no concept of infrastructure. Look at the chaos in his own inner circle. They are falling over themselves in their haste to improve their economic status, shove their draconian tenets down our throats, and poke everyone in the eye who is of no monetary value to them. It is sick, sad, pathetic, and unfortunately, our reality.

If you are looking to Donald as a savior for light rail you are barking up the wrong tree. The only thing he can be counted on to do is to privatize Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare (and any other program with an accessible bank account) and then suck every red cent out of the accounts. That way there is no moral aspect to it. They can say it wasn't personal, it was simply business. The court appointed presidency of Bush siphoned our bank accounts and now Trump has his sights on our retirement accounts. But don't take my word for it. Just sit back and watch.

Re: “A Desperate Pat McCrory Makes His Last Stand

Promoting and supporting poor policy, like voter suppression, HB2, and extremely poor coal ash regulation, is despicable but human. Attempting to change the results of an election you have obviously lost is possibly criminal and most definitely puerile. Cooper's lead grows with every inane, baseless, and desperate challenge. Grow a pair McCrory. Show a little class on your way out the door.

Re: “Loathe Hillary? Fine. Vote for Her, Anyway. Democracy Depends on It.

Hillary is like prune juice. You don't really care for it and it is hard to swallow. But if you don't you'll be full of s__t for years to come.

Re: “How Are N.C. Republicans Responding to Donald Trump’s Lewd Comments?

We need a new word. Hypocrite provides insufficient breadth and depth for the fact that the political party that purports higher moral standards and is known as the "Moral Majority" (what a joke!) has taken this long to feign abandoning ship. I say feign because even though this latest blatant evidence that Trump is a despicable demagogue incapable of empathy/integrity/humility will cause Republicans to publicly state that they don't support him I have no doubt that when afforded the privacy of the voting booth they will, like spoiled rotten brats, derive a perverse sense of smug pleasure by voting for Trump. Repugnant, repulsive, and nauseating are the first words that come to mind when I contemplate the reprobate himself and the miscreant peons who will shamelessly vote for him. They KNOW it is wrong but they will do it anyway. Which will make them all liars. They are Pro-Life, yet support the death penalty. They whine about the deficit but are too ignorant to recognize/remember that the soaring deficit can be directly linked to Bush's tax cuts/foreign wars. Bush started his Presidency with a surplus and ended it with a recession fueled record deficit. They go to church on Sunday and call themselves Christians and support an outspoken xenophobic, misogynistic, racist, fascist narcissist. They complain that nothing gets done in Washington yet they blindly oppose ANYTHING that isn't their idea; which ironically is EVERYTHING because they have no ideas. '

Like I said, we need a new word.

Re: “A legal maneuver could absolve Duke Energy of its responsibility for coal ash dumps

This is what happens when Bible thumping, gun toting, imbecilic inbreeds elect a corporate shill to be Governor. They lie like cheap rugs about honor and integrity when their sole concern is to shirk responsibility while exploiting natural resources for personal gain. It would be easier to swallow if we didn't all have to bear the weight of their collective ignorance. Albert Einstein said as far as he could tell there were only two things that were infinite; the universe and the stupidity of mankind. And he wasn't sure about the universe.

Re: “After three deaths in two months, cycling advocates call for new bike plan, education, enforcement

I am an avid cyclist and every ride I see people with their faces/attention/visual perception buried in their phones. To which I yell at the top of my lungs "Put the God damned phone down and drive the fucking car!" Right now in my mind I can see one young lady whose startled response indicated either guilt or fear for being caught doing something NO ONE should be doing, texting while driving. I believe the level of addiction some people show to texting indicates a psychological/mental deficiency and they should be required to seek treatment. All it takes is one second of inattention for disaster to ensue. And while they may not be as vulnerable as a cyclist, they are putting their own lives at risk as well as anyone in their immediate vicinity. Cars should be manufactured with scramblers for cell phones which would be tied to the ignition switch. Whenever the ignition switch is on your cell phone would be inoperable. 911 should be the only number that operates while your car is running. If you are a psychological/mental midget who has a message/call that just HAS to be made at that moment in time, pull over to a safe spot, turn the car off, and make your precious communication. NO text message or phone call warrants the loss of an innocent human being's life.
