Double Indemnity

When: Fri., Nov. 9, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $5 ($3.50 for members)

Is there a more proper way for the NCMA to close out its "Women of Film Noir" series than with the 1944 classic Double Indemnity? Adapted from the 1943 James M. Cain novel, directed by Billy Wilder and scripted by Wilder and hard-boiled novelist Raymond Chandler, the Oscar-nominated movie pretty much set the standard for how film noir should be done. As the blonde-haired, ankle bracelet-wearing temptress who manipulates Fred MacMurray's insurance salesman into taking part in a scheme to murder her husband for the insurance money, Barbara Stanwyck was the baddest of bad girls. NCMA film curator and Indy Week contributor Laura Boyes will divulge more in the pre-screening introduction. The movie starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are $5, or $3.50 for museum members and students. —Craig D. Lindsey
