Donna Hughes, Big Fat Gap

When: Thu., Aug. 13, 6 p.m. 2015
This summer’s tumultuous weather has disrupted many plans at the Triangle’s outdoor venues, cutting setlists short, forcing lightning delays and making ponchos a hot concert accessory. Chapel Hill’s Big Fat Gap headed back west down Interstate 40 after their June 4 Pickin’ in the Plaza was canceled, but they return to share a bill with Donna Hughes. Both performers’ roots connections run deep. Mandolin Orange’s Andrew Marlin produced Big Fat Gap’s recent debut, for instance, while Alison Krauss recorded Hughes’ song “My Poor Old Heart.” Big Fat Gap takes the stage first, followed by Hughes at 8:40 p.m. —Karlie Justus Marlowe
