Re: “In Hillsborough, an election wrapped in a Confederate flag

The final sentence of this article is misleading: yes, Germany bans the public displays of Nazi-ism as well as public Holocaust denial. That said, the state-run TV channel runs documentary footage of the Holocaust and WWII 24-hours a day to remind Germans of what they did. Banning symbols of hate, which the Confederate flag as the banner of southern white nationalism and the Confederacy which explicitly went to war to protect their right to own other human beings, is not the same as forgetting history. Quite the opposite. Ms. Ashley DeSena's assertion that property rights are more important than the right of her neighbors to feel safe and respected in their own town is misguided at best and hateful at worst. We will have to assume that she simply does not understand what it feels like to be attacked for one's color, belief or sexual orientation.
