Do You Hear Birds?

When: Sat., March 5, 8 a.m. 2011
Price: Free

In and Around Chapel Hill—Crave some tweets? Not Twitter, silly, but old-fashioned Tweety Bird tweets. Strap on a pair of binoculars and join artist Julie Thomson and N.C. State biology students on an urban birdwatching tour. Thomson is part of a larger UNC-curated exhibition titled Local Histories: The Ground We Walk On (reviewed in the Indy recently) exploring Alfredo Jaar's idea that "place cannot be global." Her work in the show is a chalk bundle below a photo of the words, "Do you hear birds?" She encourages people to write in chalk on the pavement the same words whenever they hear birds tweet. This is a free event; dress for the weather and meet at 8 a.m. in front of the Local Histories exhibition building entrance at 523 E. Franklin St. Call (919) 923-4550. —Christina Cass
