Django Kill...If You Live, Shoot!

When: Wed., May 13 2015

COLONY THEATRES—No relation to Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, or even to the original Spaghetti Westerns that inspired it, this 1967 film has its own unusual history. The tale of a gold heist gone wrong, it's renowned for being, perhaps, the most violent Spaghetti Western ever made, so much so that an Italian court confiscated it and forced the removal of 22 minutes before it could be seen. Subsequent video releases have restored the full violent glory. The film was co-written and edited in a very 1960s style by Franco Arcalli, who would go on to be a writer and editor of such films as Last Tango in Paris and The Passenger; he died at age 48 while working on the story for Once Upon a Time in America with the famed Western director Sergio Leone. A strange footnote to some of cinema's most famous films, this is a Django unlike any you've seen before. 8 p.m., $5, 5438 Six Forks Rd., Raleigh, 919-847-5677, —Zack Smith
