Disney’s Beauty & the Beast

When: Oct. 8-13 2013
Bookish, brainy and a little bit odd, Belle was the only Disney princess with a head on her shoulders. Think about it: There's Snow White, who doesn't know better than to avoid taking apples from creepy strangers; Cinderella, who talks to birds and needs a man to save her; and Ariel, who's determined to alter her physical appearance and leave behind everything she knows and loves for a dude she's met, like, once. But Beauty and the Beast is a story for empowered girls to get behind, even if the lesson about the unimportance of physical beauty is sort of lost once the beast transforms into a handsome prince. —Emma D.
