Discovery with DJ Brenmar

When: Sat., May 18, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: $7-$9
Fashion-forward producer and DJ Brenmar is all about rethreading the needles, whether they're for clothing or turntables. Take his "Children of the Night" single, which finds Brenmar and L.A. vocalist Kaleena Zanders tweaking Kevin Irving's Trax Records house classic of the same name with the twilit spook of the Eurythmics' 1983 new wave jam, "Sweet Dreams." He's just as impressive when he remixes some of today's more R&B and hip-hop hits (see Rihanna and Future's "Love Song") into dance-floor dreams. In fact, Brenmar's take on producing and rebuilding tracks for club consumption makes us wish more Top 40 tracks earned his treatment; this month's Discovery party should grant us that wish for a few hours. —Eric Tullis
