DIIV, No Joy, Sunflower Bean

When: Thu., Nov. 5, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $15-$17
DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith loves Nirvana. In a recent interview, he claimed Michael Azerrad’s Nirvana biography, Come As You Are, helped him kick heroin. The band’s name is a reference to Bleach. But this is all very confusing, as DIIV plays surfy krautgaze that has little to do with Cobain. Neu! and New Order are far better starting points here. Maybe their upcoming second record will sport their “Smells Like Teen Spirit”? Come early for Montreal’s No Joy, one of the finest MBV-style shoegaze revival bands going. —David Ford Smith
