Re: “A tough call in Durham, but it's Martin

If you had not cropped your photo quite so closely, Indy readers would have seen Natalie Beyer sitting right behind Steve Martin at that meeting and almost every other school board meeting and many subcommittee meetings over the last nine years.
I am really disappointed that the most hopeful skill you could come up with for Martin is that he can explain the budget almost as well as the budget guys can, yet you still endorse him. If you really worry about financial acumen, please note Beyer's finance-based Master's degree.
In addition, Beyer has been a key player in advocating for more transparency in the DPS budget process, more teacher and parent input throughout DPS, and has already, as a parent, successfully worked with DPS to create a needed and wanted second arts-based middle school option for Durham students.
I believe Beyer has skills and experience that easily match Martin and she has already shown us that she has the energy, knowledge, commitment, and perseverance to be an outstanding school board member. I hope Indy readers will take some time to read about Beyer at www.nataliebeyer.com and think it through before following the Indy's endorsement this time.
