Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba, Virgins Family Band

When: Thu., April 25, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

Two of the Triangle's hottest young bands meet for what promises to be the musical equivalent of a warm hot tub embrace. Afropop darlings Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba are magnifying their presence on the local scene, saluting audiences with explosive drum breaks, Hendrix-style kora playing, soulful griot vocals and visceral Manding grooves. Setting the mood, opener Virgins Family Band spins ear candy from strangely inventive chord progressions, floaty vocal harmonies, über-mellow electric guitar and shifty samba and rock drumming. As VFB throws its weight behind its new album Honeylion and Kaira Ba rides its meteoric debut Resonance, both bands seem to be lurching toward greatness. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
