DEVON TREVARROW FLAHERTY: THE NIGHT OF ONE HUNDRED THIEVES

THURSDAY, MAY 14, DURHAM

THE REGULATOR BOOKSHOP—Award-winning Durham novelist Devon Trevarrow Flaherty treats us to another work of fantastical fiction with The Night of One Hundred Thieves. In the land of Northwyth, the revered Queen is dying, the royal ring soon to be sealed in her crypt. This magical band attracts the attention of many thieves who, over the course of a single night, cross paths with it. The narrator recounts the tale with palpable descriptions, as though straight from the mouth of the village raconteur. Reminiscent of a modern day Canterbury Tales, the stories are funny, heartfelt and hopeful. Hear some of them when Flaherty appears at the Regulator. 7 p.m., free, 720 Ninth St., Durham, 919-286-2700, www.regulatorbookshop.com. —Zoë Gonzales
