Dennis Gruenling, Doug Deming & the Jewel Tones CD release

When: Mon., June 25, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-15

Dennis Gruenling's first harmonica may have been a present from a family friend, but the explosive talent he's developed over the years is nothing less than a gift. This New Jersey native's mastery of Chicago blues comes from 20 years on the road bending notes to suit the tune. His style is equal parts Little Walter-inspired harmonica and swing-jazz saxophone. Guitarist and vocalist Doug Deming is equally adept at exploring traditional styles with pioneering spirit. He and his band, the Jewel Tones, have been blazing the blues trail from Detroit since 1991. With a hollow body in hand, Deming is comfortable swinging a West Coast jump blues, channeling a lowdown Chicago shuffle or rockin' a swampy groove. Tickets to the 9:30 p.m. show are $12 in advance, $15 day of show. —Ashley Melzer
