Delicate Cutters

When: Mon., Sept. 24, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: Free

Birmingham's Delicate Cutters aren't the sort to glumly wear their Alabama roots on their plaid sleeves. Rather, this four-piece conjures alt-rock numbers textured by warm folk instrumentation, pop verve and thoughtful lyrics. Janet Simpson's buoyant voice is a gateway to stories of clumsy romance and bitter resolve. That emotional landscape is met by guitar, drums, fiddle, keys and bass, woven with either the right amount of melancholy or the perfect dose of upbeat irony. Listen for those touches and hear songs from the band's new record, Ring, at this free show at 9 p.m. —Ashley Melzer
