Re: “The Year in Triangle Theater 2012

Did your theater critics go to Playmakers this past year? it is hard to tell from this list. Ray Dooley's performance in the Illiad was mesmerizing-- and much deserving of the award. But did you all miss the Henry IV and V? I attended with about 40 current and former adult students-- some coming to the theater for the first time-- and they all were moved by how much the themes of young adulthood resonated with their lives and how the themes of war felt as current as if they had been written yesterday. I was also surprised to see no mention of Imaginary Invalid. Could the critics have missed this show? The physicality of the performances was like nothing we've seen in over a decade of attending theater in the triangle! Have you ever seen an actor in NC suspended on a chair two floors above the stage? And the new translation (commissioned especially for our community) made Moliere's themes about healthcare come to life in a way that was so shocking and funny, my three boys (elementary and middle school age) are still repeating and laughing at jokes from the script. I hope your critics will pay closer attention to the fine work being done at Playmakers next year.
