Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit

When: Mon., Aug. 8, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: $32-37

In this summer's battle of who's hosting the paradoxically major indie rock bands, Raleigh Amphitheater—in its second year, with the capital city's downtown as its backdrop—has emerged as the clear winner, with engagements by Bon Iver, Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes, Wilco and The Decemberists. Koka Booth Amphitheatre gets one here with Death Cab for Cutie, the Pacific Northwest band that has steadily climbed from the smallest Triangle clubs (Go!) through the larger venues (Cat's Cradle) and to one of the largest area stages. For more on the band, its successes and its shortcomings, see the Related Story linked below. Frightened Rabbit opens. —Grayson Currin
