Dawes, Sara Watkins

When: Thu., June 14, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $17-20

A glimpse at the recording history of both Dawes and Sara Watkins involves serious rock royalty namedropping. Dawes recorded their first album, North Hills, in L.A.'s Laurel Canyon with sunny CNS&Y-style vocal harmonies. The self-titled debut of Sara Watkins, formerly of Nickel Creek, was produced by John Paul Jones in Nashville. Both of their sophomore efforts feature Jackson Browne. Dawes toured as Robbie Robertson's backing band last year around the same time multi-instrumentalist Watkins was touring as a member of The Decemberists. But these young artists aren't just affirming their rootsiness; they're expanding those traditions. —Ashleigh Phillips
