David Wiesner

When: Tue., Oct. 15, 5 p.m. 2013
Winner of five Caldecott awards, which in Oscar terms makes him like Daniel Day-Lewis, David Wiesner creates picture books combining the deadpan wit of The Far Side with a vivid, classic, illustrative style. His latest tale, Mr. Wuffles!, is like an old-school Star Trek episode for kids, about the crew of a spacecraft seeking help from alien natives to escape a monster attacking them ... except the monster is a house cat, the alien's spaceship has been mistaken for a cat toy and the natives are some ants living in the walls. Check out our interview with Wiesner on the Artery blog at indyweek.com. This event will be followed at 7 p.m. by a panel of local children's authors. —Zack Smith
