Re: “Justin Williams is a gifted singer-songwriter whose personal problems get in his music's way

kh333, I regret having anything to do with this article. It was divisive and not well thought out. Large portions of it were not written by me but by the former music editor at the paper, with the editor in chief's approval. The legal charges and allegations were put in by them, not me, and I was pressured into allowing it to go under my byline. I sincerely apologize for the upset it has caused you.

Re: “Record Review: Raleigh's Naked Naps Explore Urgency on Year of the Chump

Pretty sure that if the press release we received had mentioned Chris Grubbs, the article would have reflected that crucial fact. Since it only stated that Naked Naps is "an upbeat indie rock duo," it seemed reasonable to assume that the lineup hadn't changed. Hey thanks,"JayDubz." Keep fighting the good fight.

Re: “Charges Against Three Defend Durham Demonstrators Dropped

There is difference between monuments that "remind us that there are others willing to sacrifice their lives to protect us back home" and those that commemorate people who fought against the United States itself. And perhaps the issue runs deeper than your speeding-ticket analogy implies.

Re: “Is It a Good Idea to Call a Country and Southern-Rock Concert a Carolina Uprising?

Charlie Daniels was born in Wilmington, N.C., in 1936; Bruce Springsteen was born in Long Branch, N.J., 1949. Both are true Americans, speaking their minds, in the great American tradition.

I've dug and dug and can't figure it out. What's the real reason?

Re: “Streaming Didn't Kill the Music Industry. Major Labels Did.

Thanks for writing, Chrisso. Who's to say how long it takes to write a great song? Lots of great songs were written really quickly, lots of them took a long time. Keith Richards came up with the riff for "Satisfaction" when he was asleep. But recording costs have gone down, not stayed the same. As for merchandise, the article didn't say streaming invented new income in the form of merchandise, but rather that it helps build fan bases so that artists can make money on merchandise and tours. And it does.
