Re: “It’s Our Fault The Lakewood and Baby Scratch Closed (And Other Things Our Readers Told Us)

In the end, I guess the joke's on me. Victoria Bouloubasis was so much a part of the Durham community I have called home since 1980 that she moved. lol.

Re: “It’s Our Fault The Lakewood and Baby Scratch Closed (And Other Things Our Readers Told Us)

Of course, Victoria Bouloubasis did not single-handedly bring about the closing of The Lakewood in a year's time. Her rant against gentrification that used The Lakewood as the stepping-off point was unfair to a new restaurant at the vulnerable time of its opening. Taking the Latino family that owns the inexpensive restauarant down the street provided several cheap shots at Chef Lawless' cuisine. I do believe that Chef Lawless pegged everything she had on this endeavor and the Indy was not a friend to this independent entrepeneur. The title of this opinion column, smirky and mocking, underscores the elitist attitude that now permeates a once-great alt-weekly. The folks at the Indy these days do not practice the same art of journalism as Barry Yeoman, Hal Crowther, Godfrey Cheshire or Derek Jennings, to name some old contributors from random recollection.

Re: “Friday Night Bites: The Lakewood and Scratch are Suddenly Closing, Cucciolo Osteria Is Opening, Saltbox Lands on Taste of the South's Hot List, and More

To be clear, I am referring to Victoria's incredibly biased negative review of The Lakewood when it first opened. Definitely shows the power of the pen. You should own your actions, Victoria and Indy Week.

Congrats to the Indy Week food editor Victoria Boulabasis for her role in torpedoing The Lakewood. I am so thankful for her role in protecting Durham from another gentrifying influence. Wtg, Victoria! And if you wrecked the dream of a local chef, just the cost of keeping Durham "real" as defined by an elitist group of Durham hipsters.

Re: “Dear DPAC, We Really Need to Talk About Jordan Peterson

Indy Week, you presume too much. You are not the voice of this community and your assertions are just as alienating and exclusionary as the guy you are railing against. Laura Bullard, get over yourself.

Re: “More on that unwieldy Durham restaurant name "Hattie Mae Williams Called Me Captain"

Ross Grady's initial comment set a judgemental tone for this entire comment thread. His comment shows a clueless tone-deafness to racial relations in the Triangle. A phrase like "unchecked class and racial privilege" really turns the comments section into a pile-on from the start. His comment seems really reductionist and not very aware of nuances of "the community" that he unjustifiably claims the banner of spokesman for.
