Lovely remembrance, Zack.

Re: “Raleigh outdoor dining woes, Durham discomfort

With respect to hunting on Sundays, it's worth pointing out pros and cons unrelated to Christian worship.

On the pro side: Hunting is hard, the season is short, and working people don't have a lot of time to do it. So Sunday hunting expands the time we have available to procure our venison.

On the con side: Non-hunters might like to continue having one day a week during the deer season--which coincides with the walking-in-the-woods-in-the-fall season--when they can safely enjoy the outdoors without fear of being mistaken for a 12-pointer.

The bill, then, strikes what seems to be a reasonable compromise: Sunday hunting is only permitted on private land. Public game land is still safe for hikers on Sundays.

However, the noon thing is a little annoying to secular hunters who, like religious hunters, prefer to be on their stands before dawn. It won't affect me, though. Sunday morning is when I play soccer.

Re: “An offensive pick for a defensive coach at UNC

The job title that accompanies my previous comment is out of date. I have updated my INDY profile.

Re: “An offensive pick for a defensive coach at UNC

Nice job, Curt. I always enjoy reading your work. However, I can't summon much outrage over Chizik and the Cam Newton affair. Even if Newton's father was handed $200,000 to ensure that his son went to Auburn, the fact remains that Newton played for far less than he is worth.

The scandal isn't the "cheating." The scandal is what's legal: the continued exploitation of talented young athletes by the NCAA.

Re: “Movie review: Jodorowsky's Dune

Yes, I'm thinking of "The Sentinel." But given Clarke's collaboration with Kubrick, it's fair to consider 2001 a film that stays close to authorial intent.

Re: “Movie review: Jodorowsky's Dune

Nice review, JP. Interesting that you mention 2001: A Space Odyssey. That's another masterpiece that resulted from a filmmaker taking considerable liberties with the source material.

Re: “Chaunesti Webb, her play at Manbites Dog Theater and the woman accusing her of artistic theft

A further note of clarification and correction for our readers: This morning we received a response to our query with Samuel French, the publisher that sells performance rights to plays, including the production of PETER PAN at issue in this story. The email, from Nathan Collins, president of Samuel French, says:

"Our records indicate that ArtsCenter Community Theater did in fact pay performance royalties for the production of Peter Pan in 2000."

Again, the INDY regrets reporting that the ArtsCenter Community Theater failed to comply with its obligations to Samuel French, Inc.
