David Allan Coe, Rebel Son

When: Sat., Feb. 9, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $20-25

Outlaw country icon David Allan Coe is the kind of boundary-bashing maverick who can release an album of faithful Merle Haggard covers and follow it with an album backed by thrash-metal titans Pantera, as on 2006's Rebel Meets Rebel. At 73, the grizzled, politically incorrect provocateur looks more than ever like a Mad Max villain; he makes Hank Jr. seem like Kenny Chesney in contrast. He presumably won't be wheeling his motorcycle onstage like he did way back when, but expect a barroom brawl between honky-tonk, Southern rock, biker blues and anything else DAC damn well feels like trying. Rebel Son opens. —Jim Allen
