Dash Rip Rock, The Howlin' Brothers

When: Wed., May 8, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Like classic rock if the occasional pomposity were replaced by an assured sense of humor, Dash Rip Rock don't believe grimy, old school shredding necessitates a lobotomy. Their rocking irreverence ranges from a sativa-soaked cover of the '50s pop staple "At the Hop" to self-explanatory paeans such as "Meth Lab Girl." Last year's Black Liquor explores their hard rock side, dialing back the country rock, salty swing and swamp boogie. It's not just the song's that are party-friendly; the band is a live powerhouse, too. Eclectic upstart string band The Howlin' Brothers open. —Chris Parker
