Darius Rucker

When: Sun., Oct. 5, 7 p.m. 2014
Price: $42.50-$52.50
Darius Rucker has encountered some derision since his turn toward country, particularly with his Grammy-winning take on “Wagon Wheel,” which some heard as heresy. Still, the Hootie & The Blowfish leader’s last half-decade has been undoubtedly stronger than his ill-advised foray into neo-soul on 2002’s Back to Then. Rucker’s latest material isn’t actually far removed from Hootie’s roots-heavy pop-rock, in spite of the contemporary country classification. Rucker’s knack for soaring hooks hasn’t vanished, and he still delivers the material, for better and worse, in that immediate and familiar baritone. —Spencer Griffith
