Re: “A tough call in Durham, but it's Martin

Beyer will increase the transparency of the Board's decision-making process. She will favor teaching over testing. She will support our teachers. She will help bring best-teaching-practices (rather than current teaching fads) to Durham schools. She will bring CHANGE to what has been an unresponsive and disengaged process.

Given Beyer's credentials and savvy, I don't doubt that this was a tough call for the normally reliable Indy. But it was also a gutless call.

Re: “Durham County races

The Indy's remarks on the 4th District read more like an endorsement of Beyer than of Martin. Beyer stands for change of just the sort Durham needs -- less testing and more teaching, and more transparency in the budget process, among other things. I wish the Indy -- normally reliable in its judgment -- had had the courage not to reflexively back the incumbent.
