Re: “Free parking is expensive

I can look out my back door and see this very lot . The sign is not that big if the guy was standing next to it and not 5 feet behind it you could tell better. The most I have seen parked in this lot for the 2 business is maybe 4 cars at a time While the lot can hold many more . It is a joke that the 2 companys would be such hogs over space But it is theirs to do with as they please .Come on guys share with ur neighborers It will not hurt your business at all ... but this is america where the people with more just want more even if they dont have a use for it .

Re: “From Dick Reavis' book Catching Out: The Secret World of Day Laborers

I myself have spent many a years working for a labor hall. Yes the labor halls take advantage of workers who are "slow". but also of all their workers. I worked there knowing what was happening to me and did everything from digging ditches in 100 deg weather to standing and watching a truck to make sure nothing got stolen from it . I even ended up working the 2002 super bowl .I did theses things mainly so I had more control over my jobs if i wanted a day off I just didn't show up at the hall. More often then not though we were treated like disposable workers and given the worst jobs because they did not have to worry about us coming back because there were always more waiting to take our place. I meet people like the man depicted in the story and others worse or better off . This story brings back many memories of what i endured and makes me glad I got out of the "hall" .
