What I find interesting about this discussion is how it has degenerated into concern over the rights of those who have pets to treat them however they feel is best, without interference from "the government." I think there is a long way to go from banning tethering (which I do think is cruel and inhumane in most circumstances) to banning pets.

The tactic of trying to tie animal welfare to the extreme animal rights fanatics is a clever strategy. I would be horrified if I believed that the Durham anti-tethering law would lead to me loosing my two dogs. Instead I think about the dog across the street who is tethered inside a fenced yard and who barks constantly.

And no, I have not read all 20 paragraphs that keep getting posted over and over.
