Cymbals Eat Guitars, Wild Honey, Field Mouse

When: Mon., Sept. 19, 9 p.m. 2016
Price: $10
On “4th of July, Philadelphia [SANDY],” the centerpiece of Pretty Years, the new record from his noisy indie rock outfit Cymbals Eat Guitars, Joseph D’Agostino sings about snapping out of a funk following a near-death experience. Well, sort of: “Swore I’d be present and grateful for every second,” he yawps before conceding, “Later the feeling faded/I couldn’t help it.” D’Agostino and Cymbals Eat Guitars revel in those kinds of contradictions on Pretty Years, balancing dyspeptic indie rock with bright, sunny synths and E Street sax. —Patrick Wall
