Crystal Castles

When: Tue., Sept. 6, 8 p.m. 2016
Price: $20-$23
How did Crystal Castles go from being the most beloved band in indiedom to an empty, soulless husk of its former self? Jettisoning singer Alice Glass didn’t help, especially when producer Ethan Kath characterized her as a leech and hired gun in interviews after Glass’s departure. He brought in a new singer for the current incarnation of Crystal Castles to emulate everything toxic and frightening and iconic about Glass’s persona, and the results are uninspiring. Jamming out at home to “Alice Practice” should be much more satisfying than the group’s glorified karaoke shtick. —David Ford Smith
