Re: “Your Party‚Äôs Dead, Man: Data Shows New N.C. Voters Abandoning Dems, GOP

You CAN vote in a primary if you're registered as an unaffiliated voter. This changed several years ago.
In fact, maybe we should all change to unaffiliated, and vote in the republican primary to keep those furthest on the right extremist from making it to the general.

Re: “What the Hell Happened at the General Assembly Yesterday?

Berger is great at posturing. He teed up the perfect smokescreen- that Democrats voted NOT to repeal HB2- and he knocked it out of the park, then feigning shock and horror at what the evil Democrats have done.

It was a nasty trick- separating the bill- to force Democrats not to sign. What good is repealing HB2 if the other half of the bill says no anti-discrimination legislation can be passed for a year/indefinitely? He tied the Democrats hands and then had the nerve to call them untrustworthy.

Like I said back in March, the Ds walking out on the HB2 bill in protest would come back to haunt them. It's now part of the narrative Berger had conveniently ready to publish last night immediately after session.

But in a post-truth society, a good headline is all that matters, right? Thanks to the Indy for not running with "Dems vote No to Repeal Hb2".

I sincerely hope we see the last of Berger, Newton, and many others in NCGA very soon. If anyone wanted proof that politicians are liars and power grabbers, they need look no further than the above.

On a happier note, Senators Bryant, Jackson, Chouhuri, McKissick and Blue distinguished themselves once again as leaders with integrity and courage.

The entire NCGA is not a lost cause .

Re: “Five Terrible Things the Legislature Did During the Short Session

Good overview article. Top 5 can't begin to cover the damage of the NCGA . Also in the last weeks of work for the legislature was bill to allow concealed carry withOUT a permit, blocking funding for schools and roads for 1-2 years for Sanctuary Cities at the sole discretion of the State Atty Gen (I can only assume they believe that will become a R after Nov).

And that it was not the people's voices heard with regards to HB2 but the NBA's speaks loud and clear- now we must rely on sports, music and entertainment to protect our rights and if that isn't a failure of the State, I don't know what is.

Re: “In North Carolina, the Rich Get Richer, While the Middle Class Disappears

Great article- straight to the heart of the issues and calling out what most of the press outside NC has failed to address- the other 4 parts of HB2.

And might I add my admiration for using both "obsequious" and "ass" in the same paragraph! ;)

Re: “Restaurant Review: At Durham's New NanaSteak, Scott Howell Wants to Rewrite Old Steakhouse Rules

Angela Perez's food writing makes even a vegetarian hungry. And her writing on the South is as loving, scathing, scandalous, proper, hilarious, sad, and as paradoxical as the subject itself.

More Perez!

Re: “Breaking: McCrory Issues Exec Order in Effort to Quell HB 2 Outrage

Way too little, way too late. He is dividing the different groups who stood together against this law. THAT is the play.

His "simple solutions to complex problems" IS the way of the current legislature- address half or less of the issues and sweep the rest under the rug.

But it is not the way of NC historically or for the future. Remember NC was the first colony to declare Independence from GB, but the last to ratify the Constitution- they insisted on a Bill of Rights first- the importance of which is still obvious today pending HB2.
