Based on the 2009 Pulitzer Prize–winning book by Douglas Blackmon, this 2012 PBS film (TV-PG-L,V) challenges the commonly held assumption that slavery ended with the Emancipation Proclamation. W. Fitzhugh Brundage, of UNC, will talk after the film about new forms of forced labor that persisted in the South.
