Re: “That's all she wrote: Remembering Molly Ivins

Mr. Crowther, I have thoroughly enjoyed your work for 28 years, but I have to say that, as much as I esteem your insight, and the caliber of your writing, there is no one who comes close to Molly Ivins. It seems fitting that the two of you were longtime acquaintances and yours was by far the best of the many eulogies to her that I read. The Texas Observer has an online shrine to her, and I was struck by the fact that in those pictures, as in every other picture I have seen, she is never smiling only with her mouth, as do most people in photos: always, her entire face, I would go so far as to say her entire being, is alight. Also, it seemed emblematic of the fearlessness that was her hallmark, that in the most recent photos, where she was completely bald, she wore no head covering of any sort, and appeared to be laughing harder than anyone else in the pictures. Thank you Mr. Crowther, for articulating what so many of us feel so deeply. Thank you, Molly Ivins, and farewell.
