Craver, Hicks, Watson and Newberry

When: Thu., Aug. 13, 7 p.m. 2015
These are vaunted old-time music names: Bill Hicks and Jim Watson co-founded the Red Clay Ramblers with Tommy Thompson in 1972, and Mike Craver fell in with them the next year. They all left the group by the mid-’80s, but they still get together and jam. The relationship yielded the terrific, soulful album You’ve Been a Friend to Me in 2012, with Joe Newberry on banjo and vocals. The quartet performs at the Blue Note’s new location at 709 Washington St., or by the old Durham Bulls ballpark. —Chris Vitiello
