Countdown Quartet

When: Fri., Oct. 1 2010

Following a hiatus of more than two years, The Countdown Quartet is back to a steady schedule of shows. They still swing as funky as ever, a declaration that shouldn't be taken lightly. The venerable horn combo has long been Raleigh's best party band, filling bars with a lively soul-and-R&B-flavored concoction that's heavily influenced by New Orleans brass bands. Countdown's got the brassy spirit and instrumental chops to transform jazz standards into celebratory anthems, cast alongside worthy originals that name-check local haunts like Char-Grill and Sadlack's. Pay an $8 cover and get ready to get down at 9:30 p.m. —Spencer Griffith
