Connie Imboden & Barbara Tyroler

When: Thu., March 3, 6 p.m. 2011

Award-winning photographer Barbara Tyroler, a Chapel Hill native, is celebrating her 60th birthday with an artistic splash—er, bash. Tyroler began taking water portraits in pools from Florida to Connecticut. She began her water portraiture in the 1980s by clinging to the edge of the pool with her toes while she stayed submerged. Later, she incorporated acrylic panels; her lens has also explored issues of health and age. Tyroler and Baltimore artist Connie Imboden, whose photographs are featured as part of the current FRANK group exhibit Seeing the Figure, will speak about their work at the 6 p.m. event. —Christina Cass
