Conference on Race, Class, Gender and Ethnicity: Captive Audience: Incarceration and the Family

The conference will invite speakers from the legal, the academic, and the advocacy world to share their expertise on diverse topics such as how our war on drugs has contributed to mass incarceration and the destabilization of poor families, the way our education system continues to fail children and adolescents, how incarceration further (and permanently) divides immigrant families, the psychological effect of solitary confinement on individuals and their families, the way incarceration destabilizes and reorders community and family economies, and how families of North Carolina prisoners will adapt in our new political and social climate.
