It is definitely not a man's world in this indie drama, loosely based on writer-director Stacie Passon's personal experiences. In this film, she takes it one dangerously erotic step further by having Robin Weigert (best known as Deadwood's Calamity Jane) as her stand-in, a married, lesbian stay-at-home mom who gets beaned with a baseball and becomes disenchanted with her domestic surroundings. She takes up a new hobby to fight off this disillusionment: turning tricks as a lesbian prostitute. Yes, it sounds like Belle de Jour with even more girl-on-girl stuff. But this film is looking to enlighten as well as titillate, giving us multi-dimensional portrayals of flawed characters, especially when they're in serious need of desire and passion. The film is highlighted by a mesmerizing performance from Weigert, who plays her protagonist as equal parts sexually charged and emotionally confused—and keeps us riveted throughout.
