Cold Beat, Silent Lunch

When: Wed., June 3, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $10
While San Francisco’s Cold Beat fit neatly alongside Eternal Summers or La Sera, an anxious current courses through their debut. Last year’s chilly, new-wave revision Over Me earned praise from NPR and Pitchfork. Mixed and mastered by Total Control’s Mikey Young, Over Me shares some of that band’s nervous energy and spartan approach. But Cold Beat’s got pop smarts, too. “Rain” lays a peppy bassline and airy vocals over a metronomic drum machine, while “Tinted Glass” suggests early Blondie. —Bryan C. Reed
