Pioneers of coke rap? Maybe, but I'd like to think that Virginia emcees Malice and Pusha T, or Clipse, have mastered the rap game enough to leave the crack one alone. The last time the duo hit the Cat's Cradle, they traded lewd verses in a truly spectacular live hip-hop performance. I bypassed last year's Til the Casket Drops LP, content with the high left from the first two singles, one of which had me strutting around town wearing a T-shirt from Play Cloths (their official fashion line), repeating the line "outside of Popeyes eatin 'chicken and fries" like it was the new national anthem. That's OK, though, since the We Got It For Cheap Vol. 3 mixtape still serves as the soundtrack for my dope-boy dreams. Pusha T and Malice make living vicariously through their drug tales fun, and watching them share those stories onstage is interactive storytelling time at its best. XV and Ninjasonik join Clipse's The Fam-Base Tour. —Eric Tullis
