Re: “Raleigh bar advertises with offensive language

This flier is not racist, it is just politically incorrect. The Goat, as well as the owners, are not racist. If you ever go to The Goat, you will see one of the most diverse crowds in the entire Triangle area, all coexisting happily. The Goat has publicly apologized several times for the flier and for any offense that it has caused. As for Prof Ho, before you start pointing fingers, maybe you should take a look at yourself.... As a southerner, I could easily take offense to your "seemingly" racist attitude towards "The South". Is that not stereotyping and discriminatory to assume that all southerners are racist? I could also easily take offense to the fact that Prof Ho is promoting a website (in her Daily Tarheel editorial) that refers to White Americans as "whitey". But as a reasonable levelheaded person, I am not offended. Nor should you be. I am sure that Prof Ho meant no more disrespect or offense to "The South" than The Goat meant to Asian-Americans. The Goat was simply trying to celebrate The Chinese New Year; at least they acknowledged it. We ALL know that getting "slant eyed" is another term for "getting trashed". Come on people, it is easy to sit back and scrutinize everything in print, take things out of context, and "see what you want to see". That is exactly what Professor Ho has done, so consider the source.... Everybody needs to relax and stop making something out of nothing!
