Ciompi Quartet with Allan Ware

When: Sat., Nov. 2, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $10-20
As Duke University's resident string ensemble, the Ciompi Quartet's performances always have an educational side. Over the course of this season, they're playing all of Brahms' quartets as an extended study, offering the light and popular third to lead off a weekend concert in the warm sonic confines of Baldwin Auditorium. Brahms intended this piece as a foil to the darkness and introspection of the symphony form; it should properly set the stage for American composer Joel Feigin's "Mosaic in Two Panels." The quartet will then join clarinetist Allan Ware, bassoonist Saxton Rose, French horn player Rachel Niketopoulos and bassist John Brown to close in style with Beethoven's "Septet in E-Flat Major." —Chris Vitiello
