Re: “How the electric car will save us

This is a very well-written article that, unlike many articles about plug-ins, gives them, and the technology, a fair shake.

The greatest thing about electric vehicles is that that can be driven on electricity that's produced locally -- and air pollution free. This is not a pipe dream. It's happening right now, on local and national levels.

For instance, on the local level in the U.S. you can put solar panels on your home and charge an EV's batteries with them. We will be doing this soon -- and it IS cost-effective in many states (California, New Jersey, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, to name few)

On a state and national level, as electric grids increasingly are powered by renewable energy forms -- 16 percent of the grid in Germany = renewables, 40 percent in Sweden, and a whopping 90% of the grid in Idaho is powered by renewables -- electric cars will approach being completely air pollution free, not to mention foreign oil free!

As for hydrogen, it, just like electricity, is only as clean as the power used to generate the electricity that is needed to produce it. It really irks me that hydrogen so often gets away with the myth that it is "clean" while EVs do not.

You're talking about exactly the same issue with BOTH hydrogen and electricity. If the hydrogen is produced using renewable energy, yes it IS air pollution free. Same with electricity for EVs. If it's produced using oil, coal, natural gas, etc. It is NOT pollution free.

Me, I prefer EVs, because I can -- and will be -- powering my future EV completely by myself, off our 5.59 kW home solar system in sunny Colorado!
