Re: “The Vintage church in Raleigh attracts young college students, but does its anti-women stance collide with its public image?

I certainly don't share all of VC's views, but i did think that there were some cheap shots taken in this article.

For instance, per their website a (generally liberal) Episcopal Rector of a church that size in Raleigh is going to make at least a $101,283 base salary (…).

Also, to imply that the lack of an "orthodox liturgy" (if there even is such an agreed upon thing) is an issue for a free/nondenominational/baptistic church (no matter what its theological stripe) is unrealistic and actually ecclesiologically misinformed.

Asking a feminist ethicist/theologian (and a darn good one at that!) about Driscoll seems obvious and uninteresting. I'd much rather hear from someone like Molly Worthen over at UNC whose work critically engages many of the underpinnings of current evangelicism/fundamentalism (…).

As someone who's been involved in church planting inside and outside of these circles, the whole "fundamentalist in hipster clothes" thing was a yawn. A pearl button shirt, Apple computer, and moleskine are the official unofficial uniform for some pretty conservative church gatherings.

For all of these shortcomings, I'm still a little torn on this article. I really do applaud the recognition that this kind of church in this sort of locale is the exact kind of collision that happens in "the New South," and needs to be talked about and confronted for the sake of all parties involved. I just don't feel like this particular article was particularly generous or particularly news.
