CHORDS FOR CARE

THE CAVE, CHAPEL HILL

SATURDAY, SEPT. 5

Those who describe themselves as pro-lifers, as though people who support women's reproductive rights were murdering-and-marauding barbarians, work hard for their cause: They stand in front of clinics with megaphones and exploitive signs to harangue women. They pressure politicians with morality games. They start smear campaigns against elementary school teachers. To that end, pro-choice indignation is not enough. Organizations like Planned Parenthood and NARAL require both financial and vocal support, help in spreading the word of their mission and in paying for it. Planned Parenthood will get both at Chords for Care, a six-band, three-comedian benefit organized by a cadre of local musicians and The Cave. There's the sharp pop-rock of I Was Totally Destroying It and the innervated gems of See Gulls, the rap mischief of Juan Huevos and the spear-tipped zeal of No Love. Pie Face Girls and S.E. Ward take the first two slots, while Gretchen McNeely, Brian Burns and Adam Lavender supply the laughs. Go get to work by having fun. 7 p.m., $10–$20,

452 1/2 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, 919-968-9308,
