Chicago Symphony Orchestra

When: Fri., Oct. 30, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $10-$154
This concert features four of the great institutions of classical music. The Chicago Symphony has long been known for its powerful brass section and expressive performances. Riccardo Muti, the CSO’s music director, has worked with every major orchestra and opera house in the world. Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony needs no introduction. Pay attention to its less well-known but equally powerful inner movements. And Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony contains just as much bombast as the Beethoven and plenty of good Russian fanfares. Show up early for some conversation about the future of the symphony orchestra in America. —Dan Ruccia
