Chicago; Earth, Wind & Fire

When: Fri., Sept. 4, 7:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $25-$120

It's tough to think of a more convenient way to get your '70s pop fix than by spending a late-summer evening with Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago, avatars of AM radio's golden age. Back in the Me Decade, both bands added horns and a touch of jazz to their pristine pop. (Don't forget that Earth, Wind & Fire main man Maurice White was the drummer for Ramsey Lewis in the '60s). Chicago was coming from the rock realm (at least initially), while Earth, Wind & Fire was R&B all the way. Those two streams undeniably met somewhere in the middle. And the truckload of hits both acts racked up work just as well today as ever, even if the guys dishing them out don't top charts like they used to. 7:30 p.m., $25$120, 3801 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, 919-719-5500, —Jim Allen
