Re: “Raleigh developer knocks down historic bungalow to build a massive house

What's new ?
If a 1,500 sq ft home is good , then a 3,000 sq ft home is better . Right ?
Of course it takes a lot more " energy" etc.
Often ,the same people who lament "global warming" , live in big houses and drive big SUVs . Plus fly around the world like they forgot what they espoused yesterday in their editorial to the newspaper .
Ha , it's everywhere .

Re: “History you won't like either

Mr Pollock makes some good points .
Noam Chomsky and Ron Paul have similar views on wars we have waged and might wage in the future .
I say , leave the dead Confederates alone . .

Re: “No new gun laws!

It seems the real problem with the guns is that the wrong people can get them illegally by : stealing , buying from a friend/neighbor/crook or simply getting one legally and later deciding to do something horrible with it . Of course there are other ways to do horrible things . I see no good solutions , especially in our current society that is so fluid . In the old days people knew everyone in their neighborhood and mostly what they were up to .

Re: “Heartbreak hotel: The history and future of The Velvet Cloak Inn and The Jack Tar motel

Worked as a bell-boy in 1963 at Velvet Cloak while attending NC State . Great place to work and a class act with very classy clientele

Re: “How McCrory used Valerie Macon to attack 'cultural elites'

I agree with most of your essay , but having personal contact with the Common Core ( as a high school math teacher) leads me to disagree with you on it's origins and strengths.
It's implementation has been confusing , top down , without textbooks and materials and unorganized. The idea ( more rigor) could easily have been added to or re-emphasized to the old material.

Re: “Teachers give a failing grade to working conditions

That's not the half of it . Talking down to teachers , changing teaching assignments , intimidation by evaluation tools and general adversary tactics has made the toxic atmosphere , leathal . Teachers that have a way out are leaving . Others would like to leave , but hope they can outlast the current situation . Very depressing to a great faculty .
