Chemical Peel, Potty Mouth

When: Sun., Dec. 30 2012

Though 900 miles of highway separate Northampton, Mass., from Columbia, S.C., Bay State indie rockers Potty Mouth and Palmetto scuzz-surfers Chemical Peel function as sister bands. Victoria Mandanas, their shared drummer, formed Potty Mouth with college friends Phoebe Harris, Ally Einbinder and Abby Weems in Massachusetts. On school breaks, Mandanas keeps time with hometown friends Max Smith and Ony Ratsimbaharison in Chemical Peel.

But the bands' joint tour is more than just practical: Both bands favor terse, taut songwriting. They complement each other in their contrasts. Potty Mouth's casual crispness recalls college rock classics from Pavement to Sleater Kinney, while Chemical Peel plays a rougher, but similarly succinct, Siltbreeze-like rock. The $5 show starts at 10 p.m. Visit —Bryan C. Reed
