Cheap Trick

When: Sat., May 1, 3 p.m. 2010
Price: $40-85

"Every girl I ever had a crush on had a bigger crush on you, Robin Zander." Or so laments the Breakup Society's Ed Masley in a song named after the aforementioned Cheap Trick lead heartthrob. I hear you, brother. I was in high school during "I Want You to Want Me," and it was impossible to compete. But clearly, Cheap Trick has always been much more than frontman eye candy, which is why the band still excites 30 years later. A Cheap Trick concert in 2010 isn't nostalgia hour; it's a real rock show.

Also on the top half of this benefit bill are Dave Mason, whose oft-covered "Feelin' Alright" has never lost its ability to thrill, and the long-underappreciated Atlanta Rhythm Section. Rounding out the main four are the Georgia Satellites, newcomers in relation to the others but the creators of arguably the best album of the bunch with 1989's In the Land of Salvation and Sin. Its Down South approximation of the Faces and Stones makes it instantly crush-worthy for anybody who ever bought a Black Crowes record. Proceeds help support the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. —Rick Cornell
