CHATHAM COUNTY LINE & OLD HABITS

THE RITZ, RALEIGH | FRIDAY, NOV. 13

The Ritz isn't—and may very well never be—an ideal nightclub for a crowd of 2,000. Despite the massive improvements Live Nation has made since it acquired the property a year ago, the old building remains a big, rattling box stuck in a surrealist zone of industrial warehouses and asphalt seas, miles away from its city's core. But Live Nation has, to date, done a wonderful job booking the room, bringing in prominent electronic and hip-hop acts that might have skipped the Triangle while retaining a commitment to the Latino bookings that kept The Ritz afloat for years. And of late, the group has expressed an interest in local music, not only staging the first in a series of parking-lot parties featuring some of the area's best but also hosting this bluegrass-and-barbecue benefit for an essential Raleigh nonprofit. Chatham County Line, of course, is the Raleigh roots band with a love of classic rock and pop, which gives their songs both gravity and subtlety. Alongside Old Habits, the quartet leads this fundraiser for Triangle Family Services, an organization that has supported kids and parents through nightmarish scenarios of domestic abuse or debilitating accidents since before World War II. In The Ritz's first year, it's nice to see the room strive to be more than a stopover for big acts in buses, but instead a part of its community. 8 p.m., $20$80, 2820 Industrial Drive, Durham, 919-424-1400, www.ritzraleigh.com. —Grayson Haver Currin
